Dévoluy Land-based sports in the Hautes-Alpes mountains

It’s impossible to get bored at Camping Solaire, a stone’s throw from the Devoluy mountains! Several sports grounds have been laid out in the estate… However, you may also want to get away beyond the campsite. Discover the Hautes-Alpes and its land-based sports, such as hiking, climbing, treetop adventure courses, potholing, or even pony trekking.

Discover the southern Alps by bike

The Hautes-Alpes are famed for being the land of cyclists. What’s more, the Izoard, the Manse and the Galibier are some of the passes known to the Tour de France. Whether you’re alone or in a group, take advantage of this ideal setting to discover the region by bike. Road bike, electric bike or mountain bike, it doesn’t matter which. Whether you’re an amateur or an experienced cyclist, there are so many trails that everyone will find what they’re looking for.

For example, discover the Boucle du Haut-Buëch, a 75 km route leaving directly from Camping Solaire in Veynes. The sources of the Buëch offer a magnificent landscape all year round. This is why the Fédération Française du Cyclisme [French Cycling Federation] has decided to create a mountain biking (VTT) space with the “FFC VTT site” label. The aim is to offer signposted and maintained routes for all levels.

Hiking around Veynes

Do you like taking walks? Staying at Camping Solaire in Veynes is a blessing. There are so many trails nearby. Whether for a family walk or a sporty hike, ask our team, who’ll be happy to give you the information. We’ve lots of trail ideas! Here’s just a few of them:

  • Furmeyer Botanical trail: this hike of about 4 hours can be taken in all seasons.
  • The la Chapelle Sainte-Philomène circuit in Montmaur: a short family walk of 2 hours with a small 100 m change in elevation.
  • Pic de Bure by the Combe d’Aurouze and the Combe de Mai: this hike, which is much more athletic (+800 m elevation) takes over 8 hours.
  • The montagne d’Oule circuit, a summit in the south of Veynes: classic hiking in the sector. The view from the summit extends from Bochaine to the Alpine foothills in Digne.

Would you like to discover the region in a more original fashion? And if you were to take a pony trek? Several equestrian centres in Veynes offer mounts suited to both children and adults for memorable treks.

The Dévoluy mountain range, an adventure playground

The aforementioned activities aren’t enough for you? Let’s try out other practices beside the Dévoluy mountain range. The sub-Alpine mountain range is famed for its cliffs suitable for sport climbing, downhill skiing and via ferrata. Furthermore, due to its geology, the Dévoluy is also one of the French mountains most favourable to potholing. It has 600 of the 800 caves in the Hautes-Alpes department!

Want to push the experience in further? Try the via souterrata. Supervised by a guide, or in complete autonomy, explore secure grottos over a length of 300 to 500 m. Hooked to a lifeline all along the route, you will move forward using small steps and rungs.

Otherwise, for the more conventional or the children, treetop adventure courses have been laid out in a hectare of forest in Joue du Loup.

After these sensational outings, relax in the Jacuzzi or swimming pool at Camping Solaire at the gates of Mont Dévoluy. Book your pitch or mobile home fast and try the varied land-based sports in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes.
